A sporting Chinese cook at a hotel put his week's wages on My Mistake for the big event in the recent V.R.C x His mistake was a double one, first in backing it; secondly in referring to the horse aa "Stake." When results were received he saw that his horse ran second, and dismissed the matter with "No good—no' good." That it still occupied part of his thoughts was shown, however, at tea time, when the master put his head 1 through the trap door, and ordered' "Steak —one."
