ANNIVERSARY REGATTA.
The committee of the Auckland An- N niversary Regatta met yesterday afternoon at the Waitemata Hotel, Mr T. T. Maaefleld presiding. The only business was the consideration of the regatta programme, and regarding- the Champion I Whaleboat Race considerable discussion .took place. 'Captain W. D. Reid said the committee would find to their dismay on Regatta Day that there were no entries for this race, because there were now very few boats .of this class in existence- He moved, "That the event be deleted from the programme, and a race for four-oared boats of all classes substituted." The motion was lost by a large majority. It was then decided that the wholeboat race should be retained, and with a view to inducing clubs outside of Auckland competition, the first '■ prize was increased to £ 100, the second to £20, and the third to £10, a proviso being added that in the event of local boats only competing the prize money will be materially reduced. The programme was arranged as follows: — Scow race: First prize, £75; second, £25; third, £10. Open handicap yacht race (first-class): First prize, £15 and tropliy; second, £5; third, trophy.
