MUTUAL FIRE INSURANCE.
THE RANKLED HEARTS OF THE
FARMERS,
The Waikato'Farmers' Club on Monday at Cambridge received the fpllowing telegram from the Premier in reply to inquiries concerning' the Mutual Fire Insurance Bill: "Representations received will receive every consideration at the hands of the Government. Whether anything can be done in the dierction &sked will to a great extent depend on progress n\ade with Government policy questions, especially those measures affecting the settlement of the people on the land, the promotion of agriculture, and extending and improving markets for our products. My sympathies are entirely in accord with the object Mr. Kirkbride has in view."
The chairman, Mr. J. Forrest, said he was at a loss to understand the Government's attitude, Imt themght it meant a block. If that were so, there vrould be 20,000 rankled hearts in the colony. He moved, "That the Waikato section of the New Zealand Farmers' Union considers that the mutual fire insurance measure now before the House is of such importance, and has been so universally accepted throughout the country districts, that nothing should be allowed to block .its passage through Parliament this session, and the union again respectfully urges upon the" Government the necessity of giving an opportunity to pass the, bill." Mr. B?,rugk said the farmers from one end of the colony to the other wanted the bill, and the Premeir's wire was simply throwing dust in their eyes. The farmers were the biggest community in New- Zealand, and if they could not get what they wanted they should at the next election kick out every member who voted against their measure.-
The resolution was carried unanimous
The Tamahere branch of the Farmers'
Club at a recent meeting at Hamilton also passed a resolution regretting the danger of the bill being dropped.
