HELENSVILLE HOT SPRINGS.

OFFERED TO THE GOVERNMENT.

Mr McLeod informed the Waitemata County Council this morning that a movement was afoot at Helensville to get the Tourist Department to tab over and develop the Hot Springs in that district. The springs were on Domain land, under the control of the Helensville Town Board. This Board was witling to hand over their rights to the Government, as their own funds were too depleted to develop the springs. As the Government was spending money foj such purposes in different parts of the colony, he thought they might be willing to do the same at Helensville. He himself was lessee, of the land on which the springs existed, but he was willing immediately to give up the lease, which had 18 months to run. A petition was in circulation at Helensville on the subject, and he would now move: "That the Waitemata County Council ask the Tourist Department to take over the hot springs and develop them, and that the Minister in charge be written to on the subject."

This was seconded by Mr Cochrane and carried.
