The Cost of School Buildings.—The architects supplied a report on the cost and other particulars relative to additions to the Newton East and Richmondroad schools, in which material was used from an olil O-'ohunga school which was pulled down. This old building was advertised for removal, but no offers were received. The materials were then used in the building of the new additions at Newton East and Richmond-road schools. The total cost to the board of these additions, accommodating 400 children, was £1150, in addition to an allowance of about £450 for the old material used— a- total of £1600, or an average of £4 per scholar. This was a very moderate cost, and was well within the scale distinctly authorised by the board on the recommendation of the special committee of Messrs Muir, Udy and Wright. The architects hoped this would be taken as an example of their constant endeavour to carry out the board's wishes and combine efficiency with economy.
