FIRES.

The Harp of Erin Hotel, at Ellerslie, owned by Hancock and Co., and occupied by Mrs Lennard, was destroyed by fire on July 20. Fire at Napier on the 19th inst. destroyed the building occupied by Newton and Co., grocers, the Kaiapoi Woollen Company, Bennett and Queree (tailors), and the London Dental Company.

There was an outbreak of fire in the Waihi mine on the 13th inst., caused by a kettleful of paraffin boiling over and setting fire to some of the in No. 6 level. The mine was filled with smoke, and all of the hands were called to the surface, but the locality of the fire was speedily discovered,' and the flames were extinguished without serious damage,. and none of the miners employed were injuted.
