ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

Paul Rogers, aged 30, was killed while blasting with gelignite in Seaward Bush, Southland, on July 19.

James Kerwin, ■ miner, injured some time ago by a fall from the fluming of the Waitekauri mine, died at Waihi on the 20 th inst.

Thomas Reid, storekeeper at Mangatainoke, near Wellington, was accidentally shot on the 19th inst. by Constable Search. He died in hospital. A jury returned a verdict of "Accidental death."

Constable John Johnston, Court Orderly at Wellington, committed suicide on the 17th inst., shooting himself with a revolver.

John Hesse'l Priestly, a retired barrister of England, who had resided in Cambridge for 16 years past for the benefit of his health, shot himself dead with a revolver on the 26th inst. He had been suffering much from asthma and rheumatism.

Dr. Cory, aged 41, surgeon superintendent of Ross Hospital, Hokitika, died on July 26 from an overdose of opiate. He had been suffering from insomnia.

John Meager, a platelayer, was accidentally killed by the Dunedin-Christ-churcli' express on July 26. ■ The Rev. Father Croke, of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Auckland, died at Philadelphia, U.S.A., on June ,8, on his way home to Tipperary, Ireland. He was very ill when he left Auckland, and it was hoped the change /would set him up. He was 32 years of age, and had been in the priesthood six years'. Dean Rolland died at fche Roman Catholic Presbytery at Reefton on July 13, aged 68, after a month's illness. -He was a chaplain to the forces operating under General Chute in.the Maori war.

William Eccleston, aged about thirty years, son of Mr James Eccleston, was killed in the Matawai bush on July 8 through a log breaking away while cross-cutting.

A man named E. Rain, belonging to Whangarei, fell down a fiieht of steps on the premises of Mr Oldbury, gunsmith, in Queen-street, and sustained injuries from "which he subsequently died in the hospital. Agnes Campbpll, twenty-one years of asre. who resided "with her mother, met her death at Dunedin about July 7th under mysterious circumstances. Her body was found in. a sitting position opposite the. University Buildings. \ There were no marks of violence on the body, and nothing to account for death. A peculiar circumstance is that John Osborne, twenty-four years of age, who was keeping company with the girl, was also missing, and has not since been heard of. The only news regarding Osmond's disappearance was the finding pf a' handbag at the end of Tongue wharf belonging to the missing man. The police think this points to drowning.
