WAIHI GRAND JUNCTION.
THE DRAINAGE QUESTION
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT,
WAIHI COMPANY WILL CHARGE
FOR UNWATERING.
PROPOSED PUMPING PLANT, TO
COST £80,000,
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WAIHI, this day.
An important question was raised this morning before Mr Bush, S.M., at the sitting* of the Warden's Court during the hearing of an application by the Waihi Gra*nd Junction Company (Mr Jackson) for permission to work the Waka and Grand Junction claims with fifteen men. Mr Cotter, instructed by Messrs Jackson and Russel, for the Waihi G.M. Company, though not objecting to the above application, wished to state publicly that when the Waihi Company had completed the erection of its pumping plant, which would cost in all some £80,000, it was their intention, under section 200 of the Mining Act, to take proceedings against the Grand Junction property for compensation for unwatering, and the cost of erecting pumping machinery when this expenditure actually resulted in the efficient drainage of both companies. Mr Cotter pointed out that if it had not been for the pumping operations by the Waihi Company it would have been impossible for the Grand Junction Company to carry on developments. They had taken advantage of the Waihi Company's operations in pumping, and had not paid one penny towards the cost. His clients now considered their position, and thought the matter should be made public.
