(Received 9.5 a.m.)
LONDON, July 23
Some. explanation of the disastrous accident at St. Enoch's -station, .Glasgow, is now forthcoming.
It appears that the driver of the trcin expected, to proceed to the long platform, and that he was taken by surprise through the points being otherwise directed.
As a consequence he did not shut off steam in time to stop at the short platform, and the brake power was insufficient to stop the train in time to avert a disaster.
Later investigations showed that 14 were killed and five injured. Two of the latter are in a serious condition.
The driver lias been arrested.
Many of the victims, had to be cut out of the wreckage, .which lay piled up at the top of the platform.
