At the Police Court this mo-nina:, before Messrs •W. H. Phillips and H. VV. Moore, Justices, Jesse Tanner, alias v'esse Cockiuwid, was charged with assatiit causing actual bodily harm to Alfred backland. liy ems,;ut the charge was reduced to one of common assault, and on this count deiendaut was convicted and lined £3 and- costs, £2 5/, or in default one monla"s imprisonment, £1 of the fine to be paid to Bncfcland to go towards medical exnenses.
Arthur Hallett, who was seriously injured in the Waihi mine on Saturday afternoon. i 3 j-iogressing as well as can be expected. The unfortunate man, I understand, will lose the sight of one of his eves.
The Rev. Father Brodie was a passenger by the early coach this monujj.'. bound for Auckland, to attend the requiem services in connection with the Pope's death.
At a special meeting of Public Library Tiustees it vras decided to accept Mr C. Saunders' offer for the whoip of .Ills lendi::? library, consisting of about 500 volumes, at terms arranged by a sub-committee.
