FRANKLIN AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SOCIETY.
At the annual mooting of this Society, at Pukekohe, on Saturday, the committee re-poi-ted that the last show gave a r-rofit re" .£176 3/5. The general account shewed thai after paying £150 off the mortgage, on the ground, there remained a credit balance of £"A 4/11, ns against £81 4/3 I"«t year The assets of the society w>re estim'nted at over £1000, and the liabilities at £300. An access of 72 new members brou"l*t tho membership up to 310, and a hope was expressed that the time was near when the Franklin Show would be one of the great shows of the colony. Some acrimonious discussion was produced by the following resolution oi Messrs 'Rutherford and H. Wiley: "That this meeting regrets the action taken by some members of our agricultural association in their position as members of the licensing committee to injure the prosneets of this association by deciding at their last annual meeting that no conditional licenses be granted." The motion wm carried, and it was further decided to take legal advice concerning the Licensing Committee's action. The following officers were then elected --President, Mr Geo. Ballard; vice-presidents, Messrs .las Potter aud P. .lamieson; treasurer, Mr K. RltCowen; 'general committee, Messrs .la*. Roulston. *.iun., J. Johns, C. T. BarrlbaH, A E Wilkinson, .T. G. Rutherford, W. Robinson. .7. Kennelly. Robt. Bilkey, -. Howard, Reid, Jno. Schlnepfer, and Barter; auditors, Messrs Roulston and Usher.
