CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

CHRISTCHURCH, Monday

At a meeting of the Board of Governors to-day a special committee was appointed to report on the desirableness of establishing a conservatorium of music in connection with Canterbury College to enable New Zealanders _to obtain a high musical education without leaving the colony. A letter was read from Mr Carnegie in reply to a request for a grant for the present public library in view of alterations. It was stated that subsidies were given only to free institutions, and plans and specifications were asked for, which the board decided would be supplied.
