The chief, second, and third engineers of the steamer A. J. Hocken have been arrested, charged with disobedience of orders' They alleged that the vessel was considered unseaworthy. The firemen also struck.

Two fires amongst some cotton waste saturated with oil were discovered aboard the steamer, but the flames were extinguished without damage.
