MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS.

Bunker's Hill.—ln No. 2 stope the reef showed gold freely, but not sufficient to class as picked stove. In No. 3 stope the reef Is improving in size, and gold is frequently seen. In the rise on the end of the ground, the reef is rather small, being now chiefly composed of pug, in which ii little gold has been seen. The block on the boundary, and below No. 1 level, is producing good crushing dirt, from which an occasional pound of picked stone is obtained. In the drive on the back of the Intermediate level, the veins of quartz are uniting and have shown strong blotches of gold. In No. 2 stope above the intermediate level the reef is a foot in thickness, and produced 151b of picked stone. The winze in the footwall is down 43ft. It measures ISm, and the stone shows blotches of gold freely. Harbour View. — Work during the past week has been confined principally to No. 2 block and No. ii rise. In the former, the reef shows about 18 inches in width of spkndid looking quartz, and at the last two breaking downs gold was frequently Been through the ore, which is being saved for treatment. In the rise a start has ben made to drive west on the reef, which sit present shows about two foot of k'ndiy looking quartz, and at last breaking clown a few strong blotches of gold were seen. The road has been formed to the low level, and a start made to convey the quartz to Scotty's battery for treatment.

Kapowai. — Nos. 1 and 2 stopes continue to produce good ore. A start will now be made on a new block which looks well. The hot water squeezed amalgam on hand for two. weeks run of the battery, with eight hour shifts, totals 178 ozs., which should retort one fourth gold. Old Hauraki. —At the No. 1 or 100-foot level the winze below Moore's tribute has been sunk a total distance of 38 feet. About half-way down a drive has been put in south for a distance of eight feet for the purpose of testing what appeared to be a solid block left immediately uuder the 100----foot level. After driving eight feet, however, old workings were met. Sinking the winze wns then resumed. At the bottom the lead is well defined with two gcod walle. It is two to three inches thick, and occasionally shows a few colours of gold. The intermediate level south of the main crosscut from winze below Senior's tiibute block Ins been extended six feet. Apparently -mother six feet should reach the junction !f the cross load with Legge's reef. So far her" is no change in the value of the ore. The men have been shifted from this place to help push on work on Legge s reef, which was Picked up by driving east on the slide 'nd which so far Is turning out well. North from the main crosscut Legge s reef has eon driven on for 20 feet 6 inches The formation varies from two to six Inches, ami appears to be getting larcor as it s driven upon. The last six feat produced etbs of picked stone, including the sßlbs nevteea by wire. The lode is b*li>» stripped fliid will be broken down in a t'ay or two.. The Crosscut in the footwall of the Tona lV<i near the Bunker's Hill boundary is In six feet. The lead is 15 inchea thick, but lcquires more development to prove its value. Men are also testing a promisinglooking lead in the hanging-wall oi tne

fitoped-out ground on the lona lode near lho boundary. At the 160-foot level two wen are stoping on the cross-lead, from which 41us of picked stone hav-2 been got. The manager proposes laying •'- tram-line on the drive on No. 2 lode at the 100-foot lei el for the purpose of getting into where I.egge's reef was lost by means of the slide. He hopes to pick it up again at that level the snine as iv the IOG-foot one. Hauraki Freeholds.—Since last report the No. 3 stope has been beaten out to tne break. The reef has varied in size from 6 to 9iu in widtb, and good dabs of gold have been seen at each breaking down. No. 4 stope has been commenced, and advanced 10ft, with a reef Gin in thickness, showing strong gold. A fifth stope will be started nest week. The reef being broken out on the break below where we started to drive, has not been fully manned this. week; but is nearly all down. It is a foot ill thickness, and gold has been seen in it. \t No. 1 level of adjoining mine the drive is being extended, only two men being employed here at present. The reef Is ISm in width, while on both the hanging and footwull are leaders from 1 to 2in wide, both of which have shown gold approaching picked stone in quality. The general ore from all the faces in progress is of very good quality, and should crush Waihui.—The drive along the lode is In 153 ft. The country is slightly Larder, and Uie reef in consequence is not so largo as Inst reported, being now about Oin wide, and showing free gold, also carrying sulphides.
