A Bad Record.—The only drunkard was Harry Hart, who had been convicted four times within six months, and was sentenced to seven days' hard labour.
A Doubtful Case.—George Patterson, who was defended by Mr J. li. Lundon, pleaded not guilty to a charge of indecency in Newton Place. A constable deposed to seeing the accused in the lane, but Patterson, on oath, denied that he had committed any offence. He went down the lane to see to the removal of, some cases. Llis Worship, remarking that he had a doubt In his mind, and that the constable might have mistaken Patterson for another man, dismissed the information. A Strange Method. —Janet O'Meara, a married woman, admitted using obscene language in Grey-street, giving the remarkable excuse that she wished to be arrested to get away from her husband, with whom she had quarrelled. She was fined £1, and given time iv which to pay It. Maintenance. —An application vas heard from Harry Byron for the reduction of a. maintenance order of 30/ per weetc In respect to his wife and family.—Mr Broo-kfield contested the application on benalf of Mrs Byron, and the reason given by the applicant for requiring a reduction was that one of the sons had left his mother and was now under his charge. He did not keep himself.—His Worship declined to vary the order.
