SUPPOSED ANTHRAX.

A FALSE ALARM.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

PUKEKOHE, this day.

I have ascertained this morning that the supposed ease of anthrax turns out to be inflammation of the lungs, resulting from the severe cold weather recently experienced. Mr C. Latimer states that his cattle had been suffering for some day, a/nd that he was only able to nurse the worst ca.se, and that (a cow) has recovered. The symptoms in each case were similar. A post-mor-tem examination of one cow showed conclusive proof of inflammation of the lungs.

The Stock Department representatives left for Pukekohe by train this afternoon to make full investigation of the matter. We understand they will make a post mortem examination of another cow that has died.
