PRAYERS FOR HIS HOLINESS.
MESSAGE FROM CARDINAL MORAN.
Cardinal Moran has issued the following message, in the form of a circular letter, to the priests of the archdiocese:
"Very Reverend and Dear Father in Christ. —The afflicting tidings of the severe illness of the Holy Father will have filled the hearts of his faithful children in Australia with unspeakable sadness and grief, and will have brought sorrow to countless others throughout all Christendom, who. though friends of morality and enlightenment, are not of the Catholic fold. Considering the heavy burden of the years of His Holiness, and his unceasing labours in the cause of Christian civilisation r.nd religion, it is to be feared that at any moment further bad news may be brought to us.
"Meantime, 1 request the clergy to insert in each Holy Mass, as permitted ay the Rubrics, the Collect 'Pro Pontifice Aegrotante,' and to unite with the faithful in offering up fervent prayers to the Almighty, that, in accordance with the Divine will, every heavenly grace and blessing may be abundantly bestowed to sustain and comfort the august suil'erer. Should further sad intelligence be published, the clergy, instead of the above Collect, will insert i ill further order the Collect for the deceased Pontiff."
