The Drunkards.—John Wilson, who was charged with drunkenness and the use of indecent language, was fined 20/ on the former charge, while Charles Clark was also fined 5/ for drunkenness.
Remanded.—Mati Boksich, an Austrian tradesman, was remanded until Friday on bail in two sureties of £50 : each, charged with assaulting Helena Wright with intent to do her grievous bodily harm, Sub-Inspector Black stating that the complainant was too ill to appear, having been injured by being struck in the mouth with a teacup. Mary Little, who was charged with the theft of £27 from the person of William Parsons, was also remanded until Wednesday, on bail, in two sureties of £15 each.
Raid on the Ducks. —Five boys named Leslie Winters, Harvey Rutherford, Percy Hunt, Edward Duff, James Archibald, and Charles Andrews were charged with the ttieft of five ducks, the property of a Kingsland settler named Alexander Leith. The prosecutor stated that he had lost between 40 and 50 ducks, which were worth 3/ each. His sheds had been broken into, and the ducks taken in the day-time. A constable stated that he found that the boys sold the ducks to some Chinamen at the Western Springs for 5/, and all the accused admitted complicity in the affair except Hunt, who agreed that he carried the bag containing the ducks. The*y were respectable boys, and His Worship, pointing out that though the raid may have been a piece of fun, theft was a serious matter, and he imposed a fine of 5/ upon all with the exception of Hunt, who was remanded until to-morrow for inquiries into his character. The boys were also ordered to pay the value of the ducks.
