MAY QUEEN MINE CLOSED.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

THAMES, this day.

Considerable consternation was created by the stoppage of contracts in the May Queen mine. 1 learn that an attempt to float the company in Auckland and here resulted in failure. Owing to heavy draiuage charges it has been found impossible to cany on further. The r/iine will probably close down. There is a strong local feeling that as attempts to float the company locally failed, an endeavour should be made to place the property on me London market, particularly as difficulties that formerly existed in connection with the Thames-Hauraki as to the drainage of the deep levels have been practically overcome since the purchase of the latter by the Governmnt.
