Arthur James, a youth employed at Mr Judd's foundry, Thames, had hi thumb crushed in a chain block yester day so severely that amputation Wa i found necessary. The operation wi< performed in the Hospital.
The Warkworth to Devonport coach met with a mishap at Waiwera on Sat urday last, A fresh team of horses' which had just been harnessed to the coach, had barely started to move when the king bolt snapped and caused the horses to bolt. The driver, William Barton, received a bad scalp wound, and Miss Johnston, a Pnhoi lady, sustained a bruise to the knee and a shock. Another passenger named McGlasshin, a commercial traveller, appears to have escaped injury. The Rev. Father Co r . coran, of Puhoi, had walked on ahead during the changing of horses, and had not rejoined the coach when the accident occurred. Dr. McCredie, of Warkworth, was summoned to attend to the injuries.
