THE LONDON EDUCATION BILL.
LONDON, April 29.
In the House, of Commons Mr Buxton moved, and Dr. Maenamara seconded, a motion for rejecting the London Education Bill, contending that the municipalisation of metropolitan education was practically impossible. Mr Balfour said if the leading principles of the Bill were accepted the Government would not object to modifications. He hinted that the county councils' representation on the Education Committee would be increased.
The London County Council, by a large majority, condemned the Education Bill, and advocated the creation of a directly elected education authority.
