Private advices fromßay of Islands report that a quarrel has broken out between 'two sections of the s Ngapuhi tribe oyer land affairs. The natives at Tautoro, near Kaikohe, object to eer> tain blocks being handed over to the Tokerau Land Council, established' under the new' Act, arid threaten, if. the other natives proceed, wit-?.' the case, "they will take "up firearms and lightikem." An old chief, named Kuao is said to be tha leader of tbe nialcontents. The natives at Tautoro have more than once taken to "their guns inYreceut times in. intertribal quarrels. Wainia ".'alley, where Hone Tola. and. his followers defied the Government in 1898, and'were; disarmed by Colonel Newall's force, is only a few miles away, but Toia's people 'are not concerned in this latest affair. ,". " '"• Telegrams have been passing between Mr Blomfieid (President of the .Tokerau Maori Council) and the Hons. Seddon, Carrol and Mr Hone Heke, M.H.R.'s, on the subject. Miv Heke, however, is inclined, to tliink the dispute is not" a' serious one, and he does, not believe the people will.i-esort to" arms. ~ ~
