THE LEPER STATION.
AN EMPHATIC DENIAL.
The prompt action taken by Mr George Fowlds, M.H.R., in telegraphing to Sir Joseph Ward, as Minister in charge of the Health Department, protesting against the rumoured proposal of the Health Department to make a leper .station at Motuihi, has elicited the following reply:—"What I told you whan in Auckland still stands good. Jt is not intended to put lepers on Motuihi." A Press Association telegram also received to-day states: —"Commenting upon the telegram sent from Auckland on Wednesday night concerning the alleged intention "of the Public Health Department to establish a leper station at Motuihi Island, Sir Joseph Ward says the Department lias no such desire. He disapproves of the .site, considering it should be an entirely isolated one. For this reason he favours Penhyrn Island as a leper station. Sir Joseph, Ward admits that it is quite natural that the people of Auckland should object to have a leper station in their immediate vicinity, as such cases should he kept at a distance, from any city." .
