At the Police Court this morning Mr A. W. Blair" arranged with Mr H. W. Brabant, S.M., to hear, during the afternoon, his application on behalf of Mr W. J. Baker, licensee of the Alexandra Hotel, Auckland, to proceed with an information charging Mr William Richardsen, the well-known temperance advocate, and Mr William John Bell, of Chapel-street, with criminal and defamatory libel upon Mr Baker. The Conciliation Board was occupied at the Supreme Court Buildings in hearing an industrial claim of the Fireclay, Ornamental Brick and Tile and Pipe Workers' Union. The demands are as follows: —Wages: Flangers, 1/3 per hour j junction stickers and moulders, 1/1; crowder. and drawers, 1/OA; clay bed-men, 1/; burners, 10/6 per shift of 12 hours; fire clay and ornamental brick and pottery work, 1/3 per hour; boys over 1G years, 3/ per week; over 17, 3/6; over 18, 4/6; over 19, 5/; between 20 and 21, 6/; between 21 and 22, 1/ per hour.
