H.M. surveying ship Penguin, which arrived on Saturday afternoon from the Bay of Plenty, met with a slight accident to her machinery. Repairs are being effected here, but it will not be necessary for the vessel to be docked. On Saturday the Penguin proceeds to a spot about 200 miles to the southward of the Kermadecs, where, according to an American Government vessel, an extensfve shoal is reported to exist. The Penguin will be absent about seven days, and then return to Auckland. She is under orders to survey a portion of the Bluff Harbour, and is due at Sydney early in June. ANTICIPATED TROUBLE. Mrs Brown: You used to say yon would risk your life for me, and now you art afraid to discharge the cook. Mr Browns It isn't death I fear, it's mutilation.
