WAIHI.
(By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day.
A meeting in connection with the licensing election was held last evening in the Miners' Union Hall. Mr. Slevin, one of the. candidates, occupied the chair. The speakers, Messrs. Donaldson, Hamilton, Olphert and Slevin, said that though they were temperance candidates, they would, if elected, act with fairness and impartiality to both sides. They would stick rigidly to their platform, which was the strict administration of the Licensing Act, including the enforcement of Sunday closing, 10 o'clock licenses, the bringing of "tied" houses under the Adulteration Acts, and the refusal of applications for the removal of licenses to other parts of the district. At the conclusion the chairman was accorded a vote of thanks.
