PICNICS.

Arrived at the island, young men and maidens, and oid ones too, wended their way to the picnic ground under tlie shade of the willows and the clear rippling rivulet: which pleasure parties know so well. There within a few mii.ute.s hampers and baskets were unpacked, and a capital spread was soon partaken of by a merry, jolly, happy party in truly rustic fashion. Gradually groups might be dotted over the mountain sides. revelli"g in the splendid island views which mak<> Auckland Harbour so picturesque and attractive. Everyone seemed to enjoy tliem-
selves to their liesuts' content; swings, cricket, racing and other sports belli? indulged in till well on to 6 o'clock, when tho bell of the steamer Eagle summoned all on board for the return journey, when sonu's and music were the order of the night until all landed safely at Queen-st. •vilnrf full of praise for the management who had so successfully catered for their enjoyment for the day.
