PETROLEUM FIND AT GREYMOUTH.
GREYMOUTH, this day
Iv Dobson. boring for coal, indications of petroleum oil have been struck. The bore, hole is now down 1750 ft. At 1300 ft signs of oil were found, but no special attention was given to it; since then the indications have become, much stronger, and a gallon or two of the oil was saved. Gas feeders also struck a bore hole in yellow marl, from which oil can be squeezed. The drill is in a very soft substance, and ten or twelve gallons of oil have been obtained. It
seems to be good quality of petroleum, and readily ignites and burns well.
