AGENT-GENERAL'S CABLE.
Thi following cable has been received from the Agent-General, dated London, the 3rd:— "Trade in all classes of mutton has been very slow; prices have been barely maintained. The tendency of the mutton market seems to be to decline. -The average price to-day of Canterbury mvt j ton is 5Jd; North Island mutton, 4§d. There is scarcely any demand for lambs. Stock of lamb on hand are light; the average price to-day for New Zealand Jamb (Canterbury brand) is s*d. "The beef market is very dull. Supplies of American chilled beef are large. Quotations for New Zealand beef (nominal), New Zealand hinds, sd; fores, 4d. "The butter market is dull. Buyers are holding back, expecting prices to go lower. The price of butter to-day is 108/ to 111/ per cwt. "The cheese market is very firm. The price of cheese to-day is 60/ percwt. Small supplies of cheese are on hand. "The hemp market is steady. The price of good to fair Wellington grade on the Bpot to-day is £32 10/; January-March shipments, £28 10/. "Cocksfoot seed: The market is quiet; So pressure to sell. Cocksfoot seed (New ealana, 171b standard), 63/ per cwt"-
