STREET-PAVING IN WELLINGTON
(By TeJegraph.—■Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, this day. ""it is not yet decided by the municipal authorities whether wood-paving of the streets along the line ot the electric tramways shall be carried out by day labour or contract. The reads" will be paved for the whole of their width from the Government railway station to Newtown, via Cubastreet and Courtenay Place, and it is intended to make a start with the work as quickly as possible. Between the rails will also be laid with wood blocks, and the whole of the streets will have to be re-formed, the crowns taken off and side falls reduced, so as to make them as safe as possible for traffic. The sum of £55,000 was voted for wood-paving, and the terms of contract for the supply of 5,000,000 superficial feet are that half the quantity must be landed here within six months.
