ATHLETICS.

Xery satisfactory entries were received for most of the events to be decided at the A.A.A. and C.C.'s forthcoming carnival. This year the Victor Ludorum goes to the cycling events.

"Athletics are very sick here, we had no meeting last year." Thus the Wanganui local officer reported to last meeting of the N.Z.A.A.A. P. J. Higgins, the New South Wales quarter-mile champion, leaves Sydney for America to-morrow.

Dunedin is not very keen on taking the responsibility of the next A.A. championship meeting, which has been allotted to the Southern centre, preferring to undertake the management of the meeting without accepting the risk. The matter of control has been deferred by the association.

The Victorian State championships were decided last Monday, but, of course, no particulars have yet reached here. Hunter, Gardner, McPherson and Sutton, who were here for the Australasian championships last season, were to be competitors. The opinion was freely expressed at last meeting of the N.Z.A.A.A. Council that the Australasian Union had not, in the questions it submitted to mail vote with regard to Smith's record, as already printed in these columns, put the position fairly. It was pointed out that the N.Z.A.A.A. had already forwarded evidence that the record had been accomplished in actual competition, and at a duly advertised meeting-, and it was decided to draw the attention of the union to this.
