RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES.

CHRISTCHURCH, this day.

A stiff southerly breeze which prevailed at Riccarton this morning was against time records being made. The work done was nearly all on the plough.

Glenaladale and Cannie Chiel rah a mile and a quarter in 2.144, the first named pleasing most. It occupied Fakir, assisted by Zealous, a second longer to run the same distance. Terrapin, betel Flint over seven furlongs. Golden Vein beat Winrlwhistle over a mile and a quarter, which was run ;n 2.17. Oingo led Westguard at the end of five furlongs in •1.5. Somerlod ran six furlongs in 1.17 J. Achilles easily led Ghoorka over six furlongs in 1.181. Clanbjrn registered a mile and a quarter In 2.15 J. Stepdancr moved faster than Firebrand over a mile. Tortulla and Porirua ran a mile aad a half in 2.4-ii; the colt finished in front. Bandmaster beat Optimist, Bnna and St. Bvangeline over half a mile in 51 2-**_. Avrdale led Vladimir and Lady Roslyn over six furlongs. Good schooling work was done by Bellman. Exmoor ran a mile in 1.46. Canteen. Welbeck, Halberdier and Punamu finished a mile and a quarter in 2.1-S- Halberdier had the best of the gallop, with Welbeck next. Scylla ran six furlongs in 1.18. Sirius easily beat Camelot. Menura and Wi'tehet over a mile. Pallas' time for six furlongs was 1.184. Antigone was seen to better advantage over six furlongs than Calibre and Battler. After breakfast a number of youngsters cantered and spurted, and a lart-« number of horses performed useful work.
