THE EPIDEMIC OF SICKNESS

Dr. J. H. Hooper, in his report to the Hospital and Charitable Aid 13oard this afternoon on the dispensary work at the Hospital for September, said: "I have the honour to report that 45 new cases came under treatment during thet month. The average attendance was 11, visits 4, prescriptions 397. There has been an epidemic of gastro-enteritis, attacking three and four in a family in some instances; in others only one in the house would have it. Influenza was prevalent as well, and being unable io account for this epidemic otherwise, I am of opinion it is a form of influenza attacking the stomach and bowels. We have also a good many cases of measles amongst children. Deaths, 2 males, aged 72 (pneumonia) and 78 (paralytic stroke). I have seen no fatal cases from g-astro-en-teritis, but it leaves those attacked very, weak and exhausted."
