THE INTER-ISLAND MATCH.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, this day.
Of special interest to your football readers is the following paragraph in Saturday's "Times":—"lt is rumoured that the New Zealand Rugby Union has taken strong exception to some of the items charged by the Auckland Rugby Union in the account rendered by it for expenses incurred by forwarding to Wellington the Auckland members of the North Island team. It is satisfactory to note that notwithstanding the heavy and unanticipated extra expenditure incurred through the unsportsmanlike policy of the Auckland Rugby Union in departing (at the instigation of certain official skinflints) from its traditional policy of encouraging colonial football, the loss on the North v. South, match is likely to be a very small sum. At one time the Auckland Union had an unwriteen law in the form of a perfect understanding that if the North v. South match was resuscitated every aid possible would be given to it by the Auckland Union, but, unfortunately, that wealthy union this year departed from its generous policy. The gsfod sense of the Auckland Union's delegates may be depended on to prompt them to give these official degenerates short shrift at the next annual general meeting. At least two delegates to the Auckland Union have already expressed their intention to move in the direction next year."
With reference to the above it is as weil to state that if certain items in the account .submitted by the Auckland Union are disallowed, the Colonial Union will have a deficit or about €^ over the match. On the other hand, if the accounts are passas correct, this amount will be increased to something- like £25 or £30.
