The V.A.T.C. opened their spring meeting to-day at Caulfield. The followingare the results:— EMO HURDLE RACE of 3Qosovs, two miles and a half. Beport, 11.4 l Booby, 10.7 i 2 Equity, 9.4 •> Fourteen horses started. Betting: 5 to 2 against Metalloid, 8 to 1 Beport. Won by a length. Time, 4.56. CAULFIELD STAKES of 400sovs. For three-year-olds and upwards. Weight-for-age. One mile and a furlong. "Wakeful 1 Abundance - Kilt a Eleven horses started. Betting: 5 to 2 on Wakeful. Won very easily by a length. Time, 1.57. THE CAULFIELD GUINEAS of 500sovs; second horse to receive 200sovs, and the third lOOsovs from the stake. For three-year-olds. Special weights, with penalties. One mile, jlr W. T. Jones' br c Strata Florida, by Graf ton—Lady Trenton 1 jjr" E. Power's b g Oakwood, by Pil- \ trim's Progress—Vendetta 2 fiir Rupert Clark's br c Free States, by Bill of Portland—Martingale 3 Seven horses started. Betting: 2 to 1 Great Scot, 5 to 2 Loyal and Strata Florida. Great Scot got best away, but soon gave place to Fishery, who piloted Great Scot, Loyal, and Strata Florida to rive furlongs. Loyal led intr the straight. Once fairly on the way nome Strata Florida came with a good run, and won rather easily by three lengths. Time, EINGWOOD STEEPLECHASE of SOO soys; second horse to receive 40sovs, and the third 20sovs from the stake. About two miles. Fiddlestring, 10.5 1 Plunger, 11.2 2 Kaimate, 12.2 3 Eleven horses started. Betting: 3 to 1 against Gratis, 6 to 1 Fiddlestring. Won by three lengths. Time, 3.543. THE DEBUTANT STAKES of 1300sovs; second horse to receive 200sovs, and the third lOOsovs from the stake. For two-year-olds. Special weights, with penalties. Duke of Grafton 1 Veldox 2 Portland Belle 3 Twelve horses started. The winner, who was favourite at G to 4 on, won by three lengths. No time given. THE TOORAK HANDICAP of 650SOVS; second horse lOOsovs and third 50sovs. One mile. Kinlock 1 Air Motor - Ibex 3 Eighteen horses started. Betting: 5 to 2 against Ibex, 5 to 1 Air Motor, 25 to 1 Kinglock. In a great finish Kinglock won by a head. Time. 1.44. Old Salt, who fell and broke one of his legs, was destroyed.
