LATER.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
GISBORNE, this day.
The steamer Beatrice left port at 9.30 to communicate with the vessel sighted off Turehau.
The dredge John Townley left to search for the disabled ship at noon, taking provisions, and the steamer E army left at 2 p.m.
She is described as a large barqtts with only ber foremast standing.
Her position is about twelve miles off shore, near the Ariel reef.
A light north-easterly wind is blowing, and the vessel appears to have difficulty in steering.
It is thought she may be the over? due barque Timaru. ,
[Several local shipping authorities, when questioned, have expressed it as their opinion that the disabled vessel reported near Gisborne is the barque Timaru, now nearly seven weeks overdue at the Kaipara from Lyttelton. It is explained that with light ballast the vessel would present a high freeboard, and the fact of her having but one mast would make her appear much larger in the distance, than she probably is. With respect to*the barque reported on fire frolii Gisborne some time since, it is considered that vessel would not be the Timaru, as it is almost impossible for a vessel in shingle ballast to catch fire, and even in the event of her doing so the fire could be easily, extinguished.] •>
