THE KAIPARA SEAT.
A meeting of representatives appointed by the Farmers' Union was held at Helensville on Tuesday last to select a candidate for the Kaipara seat. The names mentioned of candidates already in the field were Messrs. Peacock, Hardinge, Basset, Stallworthy, Newman, and Monk, but nothing was definitely known whether or not Mr Monk intended to stand. It was decided that voting papers should be sent round to members of the union, and that they should stand by the candidate who received the largest majority.
A meeting held at Paparoa on the 20th inst. decided to draw up a number of questions to be put before each candidate for the Kaipara seat, and report to a public meeting to be held at a later date, with a view to combined action. It was stated that Mr Ariell's name had been withdrawn from the list of candidates, and that Mr J. H. Trounson's name was put forward without his permission.
