WAIROA DAIRY COMPANY
Shareholders in the Northern vv airoa Co-operative Dairy Company held their annual meeting at Aratapu, about 30 being present. Mr Basset presiding. The directors' report referred to the formation of the company on January 30th, 1902. The sum of £4500 was borrowed from the bank at 6 per cent.. on the joint security and several bonds of directors. It was decided to'obtain a plant, with tne following capacity, viz., a factory capable of manipulating the cream produced by $600 cows, and skimming the milk of 600 cows; also six creameries, to SKim the milk of 500 cows each. The cost of this plant and all expenses prior to commencement of actual business is estimated not to suQceed £6000. Snareholders made free gifts to the company of land for sites for the factory and six creameries, and also haule.d all material to these sites. Concessions were also made by the local steamboat company- in travelling- expenses and freights. The various gifts in all amounted in value to about £1000. The board decided to buiid' the factory a*. Mangawhare,. where a good water supply has been obtained. Upon this decision Messrs A. E. Harding and Co. gave the company a site, for the factory and promised to lend the company £1000 at' live per cent, should the same be required. Mr A. E. Harding also gave land round the sourqe of the water supply, thus securing the water rights for all time. The directors further decided to erect six creameries at Tatarariki, Raupo, Rehia, Arapohue, Avoca and tne Bluff respectively, the slices in eacn case being free gifts. The following contracts were accordingly let: Factory building, W. F. Bulford, £457 15/; factory machinery, MacEwan and Co., £1490; total for factory, £1977 15/. Creameries: Building, F. Jones, £719 19/6; creameries, machinery, MacEwan and Co., Ai274S; total for creameries, £3467 14/6. Grand total, £5445 14/6. The report was adopted, and the following gentlemen were nominated and duly elected directors: Messrs W. Simpirin, G. Bcadley, T. Bassett, A. E. Harding; Is. Gelston, E. Harding, and T-. Webb. it was resolved to petition the Government to extend the JCaihu railway to Waima, which would, save suppliers about four miles of carting.
