FALL OF ST. MARK'S TO-WEE, VENICE,

VENICE, July li.
The Campanile (the bell-tower) of St. Mark's historical church in Venice collapsed and fell. No loss of life was occasioned, as the Piazza below had been previously declared unsafe and cleared.
[St. Mark's church is a famous acid historical edifice and is one of \he principal,sights of Venice. The Campanile is of great antiquity, having been begun ju&t a thousand '/ears ago, A.D. 902, and completed by the belfry 1510. It commanded from ;*ts altitude of. 323 a splendid prospect over the city and the Adriatic. The Piazza to the west of St. Mark's is regarded as the centre of civic and social life in Venice.]
