UNIVERSITY COLLEGE SOCIAL.
The annual "capping" social given by the Auckland University College Students' Association in honour of the graduates nf the year was held at the College on Saturday evening, when there was a large attendance o* students and friends. The visitors assembled in the double lectureroom, whPre they were welcomed by Mr F. C. Long, 8.A., president of the Student? Association. The evening was'devoted to the singing of a number of college songs by the students, and to a musical farce entitled "Sappho," the words of which were by Mr H. Dean Bamford the music being taken from various sources The farce told of a certain professor who' Ji-ning lost a priceless volume of Sappho's poems, persisted in personifying his lost book and thereby aroused the jealousy of us young wife. Everything comes right In the end, however. As the professor, Mr x. Sinclaire acted well and sang admireMy, while Miss Kelly as the professor's wife played her part most creditably, her pinging beinp greatly admired. The minor parts were capably filled, arid the choruses were excellently rendered. Altogether the farce was a bright and amusing production An orchestra under the baton of Mr J. E. Holloway contributed a good deal of enjoyment of the performance bupper was served downstairs, and a very pleasant evening was brought to a conclusion with the singing of "Gaudeamus" and "God Save the King."
