WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The Waipa County Council met at Ohaupo on Tuesday. A communication was received from, the Chief Valuer on the subject of the valuation of Mr J. Gillett's property at Te Rapa'. He thanked the Council for drawing his attention to the apparent discrepancy in tne valuation placed upon the land, but said it was impossible to make any alteration for the current year. Next year he proposed to raise the valuation of the whole Waipa County. The valuation of the property mentioned would be carefully gone into next year. ■ It was decided to strike the following-, rates:—General rate of 3d in tKe £ in tho ridings of Rangiaohia, Pukekuru, Newcastle, Tuhikaramea, and the AJexandra "outlying district;'ad iv the £in Hamilton and Mangapiko; and a separate rate of 3d in the £ in the ridings of Hamilton, Mangapiko, and Alexandra outlying districts. The Raglan County Council having refused to accept any responsibility in connection with the maintenance of tTie Whatawhata Swamp Road, the Waipa Council decided to notify them that the latter reserved the...right to take further action.

The supervisor of works suggested that the Council should obtain a road-making: machine, and stated that he Jiad mad" arrangements with a man to fin* horses and o. driver for 27/6 a day on condition that they kept him employed for three months. The matter was deferred pending inquiries as to what work 'wa? actually required in the district and what assistance the Road Boards were likely to afford.

A committee v/a£ appointed to frame by-laws for the regulation of beavy traffic in the district.

It was decided to apply to the Government for the following grantE:—Whatawhata Swamp Road, £500; Te AwamutuWaotu Road, £500; Cambridge Bridge, £3000.

The Council resolved to reply to the Railway Department for Increased accommodation at the Rukuhia railway station.
