THAMES, this day. At the Thames Foresters' social reference was made to the Auckland executive, and high praise was awarded to the various officials for the excellent work performed, and the active and intelligent interest manifested by them in the progress of the various courts, and the advancement of the order.
The attention of the Government has been directed to the fact that a' misunderstanding exists regarding the inspection of dairies. The Agricultural Department asked to have a regular inspection carried out in accordance with the Act, but it is stated that some of the dairies have not been inspected for many months. Thames'sportsmen who have been out shooting during the wet and dull weather returned yesterday. They report having had fair, sport. Some of them secured from 16 to 36 bra<?& of ducks and pukeko. •
It is staged that the Government had obtained official reports as t<* the cost of draining the Piako lands, and that the estimate ran to close on a quarter of a million. A large por-' tion can, however, be drained and settled, it Is estimated, oil an expenditure of £40,000. \
