THE HON. J. CARROLL.

The Hon. James Carroll, Native Minister, was in attendance at the Government Buildings, Customsstreet, to-day attending to Departmental business. Since thd gathering at Rotorua, when His Excellency the Governor presented the flag to the Arawas, Mr Carroll has visited Tauranga, Whakatane and Matata, meeting the natives at each place and explaining to them the provisions of the Maori Councils Act and the Maori Lands Administration Act. Mr Caruoll was accompanied by Judges Scannell and Gill, president and European member of the Waiariki Maori Lands Council, which held meetings at Tauranga, Whakatane and Rotorua. The Minister found the Maori Councils Act in full operation and working well. The Maoris have named a number of blocks in various districts which they propose handing over to the Maori Land Council to be dealt with under the Maori Lands Administration Act. It is Mr Carroll's intention to remain in Auckland for a few days, but ha will lqfave for Waikato to attend the native meeting on the 26th inst.
