This afternoon His Worship the Mayor, Mr Kidd, accompanied by Mr Wooliey, Superintendent of the Fire Brig-ad?, Messrs GoMsboro and Wade, architects for the new station, and a "Star" representative, paid an official visit to inspect the new Fire Brigade Station in Pitt-street. The contractor has a large staff of workmen on' the job, who are pushing forward operations as speedily as possibleThe building itself is now constructed, and the inside fittings and arrangements will be finished .within six weeks' time. "When complete His Worship the Mayor will open the building. The station, is built upon almost the same lines as the Wellington and Adelaide stations, with all the most up-to-date appliances, so that the matter of the engine getting away will be not one of minutes, but of seconds. Superintendent Wooliey expressed himself as delighted with the arrangements of the station, and hopes to be able to lower the record for getting away from the station the preseint best being Wellington's tune of 17 seconds. Besides the Pittstreet station, there will also be branch stations in Albert-street Ponsonby and Grafton, so that no 'delay should be experienced in arriving at the scene of a fire.
The barque Woosung arrived from Newcastle yesterday, and was inspected by the port health officer this afternoon. Captain Cooper reports that the Woosung left Newcastle on the 4th inst., and experienced light S. E. winds to Lord Howe Island, which was passed.on the 9th. Thone a terrific gale from the westward was encountered, and the seas were running very high. These unfavourable conditions prevailed throughout. The Three Kings were picked up on Wednesday last, and down the coast to arrival exceptionally squally weather prevailed. Coming into the Channel last night the jib carried away. Captain Cooper describes the weather as the worst he baa ever experienced,
