A breach of promise action, brought by Mary Jane Richards against Herbert Birch, to recover £501 damages is being heard by Judge Edwards and a jury, to-day. Plaintiff swore that she became engaged to defendant at Manley when on a visit to Sydney some years ago, that he undertook he would marry her in August, 1900, but afterwards postponed the event, and finally cooled off. .__
