THE DEFIANCE.
The brigantine Defiance, which arrived from Wollongong as we went to press yesterday, reports that heavy gales are still raging in the Tasman Sea. She left AVollongong on April 2S, and encountered a strong southerly gale and heavy sea for five days. The wind then shifted into the eastward, blowing a strong gale for six days. Cape Maria Van Diemen was passed on Monday last, and down the coast strong west and south-west winds were experienced.
