NEW ZEALAND RUGBY UNION.

WELLINGTON, Tuesday.

At a meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union Management Committee, to-night a telegram was received stating thatj the Governor thought a shield was a better idea than the cup originally mentioned as the Ranfurly trophy. The ' committee expressed a like opinion. In reference to a direct application of the club to the New Zealand Union for the removal of the life disqualification of one of the chib'- s players, it was decided to reply that such applications must in the first place be made, to the local union. It was resolved to write to tbe New South Wales Rugby Union asking that body, while approaching the English Union further with regard to the proposals made some time back for the visit of an English team to Australia, to make a request that New Zealand be included ia tbe, tour.
