THE ABOLITION OF WELLS AND TANKS.

(To the Editor.")

$\ r< —Can yon inform me what steps should tenants take to compel landlords to put a proper supply of city water to every house let, and aboiifh this tank and well system now in operation so much unnoticed ? la it not highjtimc'for the health authorities to wake Tip and alter this dangerous practice of tank and well water? For a long time past in various districts in and around the city many citizens have been suffering- in a most distressing manner from a long train of symptoms which have baffled the skill of all medical men here, and which, I fear, if hot arrested in its progress, will terminate in the total prostration of the district. As far as I can see, the health authorities have done their duty well in the line of cleaning backyards, but look to the sort of water small children must consume. I think it is the general opinion of? all medical skill that pure water is a v^ry important factor in the preservation of health. What I would humbly request is this, that a thorough examination of every house be made and get all wells and. tanks in the subi;rbs closed at once*, and you will see fewer cases in our. hospitals that at present. 1 trust, therefore, that a more efficient pen than mine will .correspond on this matter, and will request the favour of the immediate attention to this serious defect.—l am, etc., _' _„_ , uuaaM^,
