The "Times" supports the Interdepartmental Committee's cable recommendations in regard, to the minimum 'strategic requirements ■of the Empire, namely, a cable fr.om Rodriquez Island (in the Indian Ocean) or Cocos (south-west of Sumatra) to Ceylon, or Cocos to Singapore, a land line from the Straits Settlements, Burma, and a cable from Jamaica to St. Lucia (West Indies).
