ASSOCIATION NOTES.

The students of St. John's College j attending the University College have entered a team for the junior compe- j tition. and are practising hard. There are just eleven of them, and from what I know of them they should do well. Their joining the socker ranks was caused by the death of the University Rug-by Club, owing to the club's" inability to get engagements with clubs outside tne .lugßy Union.

Keynolds, the English International, who is at present In this city, and is prepared to "coach," played against the team from the Mildura on Saturday. Although n,ot tip to form, yet he showed some very pretty play. His passing- and tackling- was a pleasure to witness, being neat and clean. One did not expect him to shine out in this his first match, as no doubt he is just getting- over his long sea voyage.

The North Shore Club held its annual meeting on Thursday week. The report showed the club to have had a successful season, being only half a

point behind the championship winners. The funds of the club have been looked after, a credit balance of £15/ being in hand. There is every prospect, so far, of the club having aniother prosperous year, as several new members have signified their intention of joining.

A team comprised of Scotchmen intend entering an eleven for senior honours. Some of tTiese players were to be seen having a kick on the Domain during the past, fortnight.

Bradstock will be an absentee from socker ranks, being now a resident of the Waikato.

An interesting match was played between the North Shore Club and from H.M.s. MilcTura on the marine suburb ground on Saturday, the game eventually ending in a draw, two goals each.

J. Wricht has been elected as captain of the North Shore team, a position he will, it is certain, fill with general satisfaction to all.

Martin, 'an ex-Aucblander, and now of the Swifts (Wellington), is at present, on a holiday trip to this city-

Harry Mayter, who ■journeyed to this city with last year's "Wellington representatives, has left for a visit to the Old Country.

In perusing the names of the North Shore Club's management committee, the names of J. Burgess and G. W. Allen are to be found. In electing these two gentlemen the club have been wise, as by past experience they have shown themselves to be real grafters in the interest of socker.

It is believed that Barlow, captain of North Shore juniors last season, has decided to play Rugby.

Burns, who journeyed to Auckland with the Wellington reps, in 1900, was an applicant for a position in the Tenth Contingent.

Nagle (Dunedin) and Smellie (Swifts, Wellington) have both joined the new St. John's Club in Wellington.

All "socker" lovers will be glad to hear that the danger of there being no grounds to play on this season owing to the Association being in debt to the Qricket Ground Committee, has been removed by the generosity of a local "soekor" patron, who has guaranteed the necessary funds. This gets the management committee out of a nasty hole, but one cannot condemn too strongly their foolish action last year in not paying their immediate debts before they indulged in the luxury of sending a team South. 1 understand that even now the finances of the Association are far from being- in a flourishing condition. However, the annual meeting will have been held before these notes appear, and the matter will probably have been thoroughly ventilated.
